Today we met a 3rd grade class from the International School of Prague. Normally we are a 6 hour time difference from them and they would be ending school at the time that we started school. But we had our time change last weekend and their time change isn’t until March 27th so for those 2 weeks we are only 5 hours difference allowing time for a meeting. Today we each shared info about our school and country. On Friday, we are going to call again to do a question and answer period. We learned that they have students in their classroom from many different countries like Korea, Japan, Afghanistan, Kazakahstan, United Kingdom, United States, etc. In their library, they have many international books. Their country has never had an earthquakes or other natural disasters. They told us all about their playground which includes a spiderweb for climbing, tennis courts, basketball hoops, swings, etc. They have 2 gyms at their school and 4 computer labs. Right now some of the things that they are learning about are the times tables, parentheses and sound. They told us a few legends of Prague about Sharka and Golem. It was neat to learn that we have many things in common with them like favorite games and books. One of our favorite books is Sideway Stories from Wayside School. Most other classrooms haven’t heard about it, but the students in Prague seemed to love it as much as we do!! We had a fun time and we discussed the possibility of Skyping again later on in the year.

  1. Hello, Mrs. Schmidt!

Yes, we are relatively close to you! We are located in Annville, PA about 90 minutes from Philadelphia. I’m so glad you commented! Even though technology has allowed us to make new friends from all over the world, it’s always nice to meet someone from “home”. If you don’t mind, I’d like to link to your blog so that my students can continue to visit other students their age who are blogging.

Are you reading anything good right now? I decided to reread Gone With the Wind. I haven’t read it since high school. It is as enjoyable as I remember it, but VERY long! 🙂
